We tried to use this when our baby was first born. It works as intended, but our baby didn’t like being in it. I also didn’t like how far away it put my husband and I from each other. After a few nights of the baby crying as soon as we put him in it until we caved (5-15min later), this became a cat hang out. We got rid of it in favor of having more space in the bed by 4 weeks. The only problem is the husband was not comfortable sleeping next to the baby so he didn’t get to sleep next to the baby for a few months. But, I got to snuggle with hubby and the baby at the same time so I was fine.

I am reviewing the DELUXE edition. There is also a Supreme edition. Based on the pictures, they look rather similar. We went for the Deluxe edition because it was 10 dollars cheaper and we will be using this only occasionally. In my view, the Deluxe edition is as good as it gets, so how much better can the Supreme edition be?

The pictures looked so similar that we figured this must be a typical example of what economists call “price discrimination”, that is the practice of offering virtually identical goods at very different prices so that customers with different preferences/budgets sort themselves accordingly. Thus anyone who wants only the best for their babies will fork out the extra 10 dollars. That’s my interpretation, but I must admit I have not conducted a thorough comparison of the two products. Enough theorizing, back to the facts.

This snuggle nest looks great and feels great. If I were small enough I would probably test it myself. The finish is great, the design is great. Even the night light is very pretty, useful, just perfectly designed.

Now here is my contribution: when unpacked, the snuggle nest smells of “new”. I would strongly recommend, for hygienic reasons, to thoroughly wash the whole thing before you use it, with some anti-allergenic soap or whatever, and to air it. Thus I would recommend opening the box a full week before the planned date of use — and since such dates can be uncertain, well perhaps one full month ahead of time?

To sum up, if you go for the slightly cheaper Deluxe edition, your baby will not be cheaply bedded. This snuggle nest is great.

We bought this for our daughter after it was clear that she hated sleeping in her co-sleeper crib. Apparently being *next* to our bed wasn’t close enough – she wanted to be *in* bed with us :) Because co-sleeping is dangerous without protection for newborns, we researched and found this product.

We have a queen-sized bed, and the snuggle nest did make it a tight fit for everyone. But being next to our baby, hearing her breathe, and being able to easily turn over and nurse her made it very worthwhile. I’m exclusively breastfeeding, and those first weeks where she nursed seemingly all the time would have been twice as bad had I not been able to nurse her while still in bed.

The mattress is compact and sturdy (as it’s supposed to be), and the side bolsters did a good job of preventing her from wiggling too far to the right or the left. The LED nightlight was very impressive – effective without being glaring. All of the fabric parts are removable from the plastic shell and machine washable. The ease of folding up the bed meant that we took it with us when we traveled with her – no crib needed in a hotel or grandma’s house, we just unfolded the snuggle nest. That alone was a big stress reducer.

Now for a downside – your child may grow out of it very quickly. Our daughter is a long baby, and we started noticing a tight fit as early as three months old. By 3 1/2 months, we decided to transition her back to a crib. Thankfully she was as ready as we were, and now at 4 months she sleeps in her own crib all night. All in all, it was a great purchase and we certainly will keep the snuggle nest for use with our next child.

I used the Snuggle Nest with both kids and it allowed me to see and hear them sleeping and also to pick them up to breastfeed them, all without getting up. Also, there was no way for either of us to roll on top of the baby.

In response to the critical review saying that it increases the risk of SIDS, I’m not sure the reviewer has seen the product in real life. With the Snuggle Nest, there are no pillows or blankets anywhere near the infant’s face (no blankets at all actually). There are 2 sleep positioners that go around the baby’s hips to keep them on their back, thus, potentially decreasing the risk of SIDS, although newborns can’t turn over anyway. You can also use the Snuggle Nest without the sleep positioners. And because you are right next to the baby, you can see and hear if the baby is in even slight distress. I was so exhausted as a new mother, I was not able to get out of bed to get the baby every hour or two for a feeding (I tried it with the first baby – it did not work).

I have heard that breastfeeding decreases the risk of SIDS; this product makes it easier to breastfeed. Whether you’re breastfeeding or bottlefeeding, I recommend doing it in bed or somewhere that even if you fall asleep and drop the baby, the baby will land on a soft surface (don’t laugh, it happens, and then you will be wide awake!).

The only product that I think is potentially better for keeping baby close and safe is the bassinet that attaches to the side of your bed with no wall in between (looks like a pack and play, but missing the side next to the bed). I don’t remember what it’s called, and didn’t get it because of the cost and that I already had the Snuggle Nest and a pack and play, but it’s worth checking out. I believe it can be used past the newborn stage, unlike the Snuggle Nest.

It is a great concept and I researched a lot before buying this. But unfortunately my baby did not like it and would wake up within minutes after putting him asleep in this bed. He would start stretching and his arms would hit the walls of the bed and eventually he would wake up.

In spite of the short period of time this can be used (4 months), I was really excited to get this at $49. 99 (now the price has reduced) but could not really use it.
